Stunning French classics amass in Hampshire

An immaculate American-spec Citroën SM took the People’s Choice award at this year’s Simply French event at Beaulieu on 12 May.

The 3-litre coupé was owned and maintained by Barry Lowdell from Hatfield, who is also a member of the Citroën Car Club.

Runner-up prizes went to Des Collins’ Alpine-Renault A110 and Jim Baumann’s Renault Caravelle. Each was awarded an Autoglym valet kit.

The prizewinners then joined a cavalcade through the National Motor Museum’s grounds comprising the eight most popular cars on the day.

The meeting attracted classics from all the major French marques, but also vehicles from Facel, Simca and Panhard.

Event sponsor Citroën’s café brought a Gallic flavour to the day by serving pastries and playing traditional French music, while a caricaturist and mime artist kept visitors entertained.
