Brooklands gears up for another Double Twelve epic

| 12 Dec 2011

With a dedicated class to celebrate the MGB’s 50th anniversary and another to promote a standoff between two air-cooled icons, next year’s Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival is already promising to be the best ever.

The 16-17 June celebration, which is run in partnership with the Vintage Sports Car Club, will feature a category exclusive to Volkswagen Beetles and Citroën’s 2CV, while another is set to honour 80 years of the Coupe des Dames, dedicated to ladies-only sports and rally cars.

They’ll form some of the dozen 12-strong classes taking part in the Driving Concours on the Sunday, which features a series of tests along a route inspired by the 1939 Junior Car Club Rally at the Weybridge circuit.

The programme for Saturday will be centred around the VSCC’s Speed Trials, held on the test track at the neighbouring Mercedes-Benz World, while all Double Twelve contests will have the chance to take part in the event’s inaugural brake test which will form part of the traditional Test Hill Challenge on the Sunday afternoon.

Other highlights will include a ‘team pull’ contest to get the heaviest object up the Test Hill in aid of charity and a competitor paper glider launch.
