English pair prepare for inaugural assault on the Ulster

| 19 Aug 2013

Clive King and Bob Ward will make their rallying debut at the Ulster Historic Rally on 24-25 August.

The pair – who currently lead the HRCR Mini Cup – plan to contest Category One (for pre-’68 cars) in their Mini Cooper ‘S’ to cement their lead in both championships and to serve as a pre-retirement celebration for co-driver Ward.

King said: “We have been talking about going to the Ulster for a number of years as so many crews say it’s a fantastic rally to do.

“Bob retires from work later this year and probably won’t be able to commit to as many rallies in the future, so now is the right time to see how we get on in the Irish lanes.”

The team mates plan to embrace the Clubman culture by saving as much money as possible.

“We will travel on Wednesday, recce on Thursday, rally on Friday and Saturday. Also, we’re camping locally, rather than using hotels. It all helps to keep our costs down,” said King.
