Huge weekend of racing to get underway in Kent

| 5 Jul 2013

Everything from Formula 5000 machines to ’60s touring cars will head to Brands Hatch on 13-14 July.

Races earmarked for the HSCC Historic Superprix include the cars of the Derek Bell Trophy for powerful F2 and F5000 open-wheelers, which will be let loose on the Grand Prix circuit.

Out on the Indy track, F3 and Formula Ford cars from the 1960-’70s will bring their own style of wheel-to-wheel racing.

On the larger course, fans’ favourites such as AC Cobras and Jaguar E-types will share space with sports racers from marques such as Lola and McLaren.

The rough and tumble of saloon-car racing is also promised thanks to machines from the 1980-’90s – in the Supertouring Trophy – while nimble 1960s British classics will battle their powerful American counterparts in the Historic Touring Car Championship.

Patrick Watts, who’ll race in the Supertouring Trophy, said: “I think everybody will say ‘we are going to take it easy and these are historic cars’, but when the flag drops all that will stop and we’ll be out there to do as well as we can.

“There are some good drivers out there with existing cars and they’re used to driving them, nevertheless I will give it my all and I think people will remember the noise they make, they sound very good!”

Ticket prices start at £18 and can be purchased on the circuit’s website.
