Kenyan ladies take on Safari in famous Escort

| 22 Aug 2011

An all-Kenyan female rally team of Samira Khan, 32, and Safina Khan are to become only the second all-women crew to enter and compete in the Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally and the only all-lady crew for 2011 when the event sets off in November.

Samira – a pilot with Kenya Airways who flies a Boeing 767 – and Safina (no relation) – who co-drove for Michelle Van Tongeren in the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) some years ago – will drive a Ford Escort Mk1 previously used by former Air Force pilot and 2008 KCB Classic Car Cup Champion, Aslam Khan.

The last all-female team on the event was Michèle Mouton and Ana Goni in the first Safari Classic in 2003.
