Shelsley gears up for two great events

| 4 Jul 2013

Worcestershire promises two fabulous days of competition this weekend (6-7 July) for fans of youngtimer, classic and vintage cars at Shelsley Walsh.

On Saturday the Reg Philips Memorial Trophy Meeting is expected to attract numerous saloons, sports libre and racing cars.

There will also be the Midland Speed Championship – ranging from Hillman Imps to bike-engined open-wheelers – the Westfield Speed Championship, plus the Bert Hadley Memorial Championship. The latter will feature a swarm of Austin Seven racers.

More than 150 vehicles – including cars from Bentley, Fraser Nash, Talbot, Lea Francis, Alvis, Riley and Lagonda – will turn out for Sunday’s Vintage and Post Vintage Thoroughbreds meet.

Mac Hulbert’s ex-Raymond Mays ERA 4RD is top tip for Best Time of the Day, while Chris Williams’ 24-litre Napier-Bentley (above) will doubtless lay on the biggest spectacle.

Away from the track there will be a display devoted to Vauxhall’s 100mph 30-98, with more than 100 Vauxhalls celebrating the model’s centenary.
