Alfa takes Coppa Milano-Sanremo

Giovanni Moceri and Rossella Labate scored back-to-back victories in the Coppa Milano-Sanremo by bringing their 1928 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500SS home first on 13 March. Second place went to Fabio Salvinelli and Maurizio De Marco in a 1750 Gran Sport variant of the 6C while the 1939 Lancia Aprilia of Giordano Mozzi and Stefania Biacca took third. The ninth running of the reborn three-day regularity rally, organised by the MAC Group and supported by the Automobile Club of Milan, covered 800km through Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria with 39 timed tests and a further 19 time controls.

Also featured this year was a parallel event for more modern cars called the Ferrari Gran Tour Milano-Sanremo, which was won by Gino Verghini and Lamberto Fuso in a 1992 Ferrari 512TR, while the Coppa delle Dame on the main rally was scooped by Francesca Grimaldi and Laura Confalonieri in a 1964 Porsche 356 C.

Sandro Binelli, president of MAC Group, said: "I'm delighted with the success achieved by the event that we organised, especially in occasion of so significant an anniversary as that of 150 years of Italian unification. The event attracted 150 crews from 12 countries to celebrate this important anniversary with us."

Wow that's hot car. I think its amazing to see an old alfa romeo car like this still on the run and still rocks. I believe this 1928 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500SS deserves to win. I love how the owner restored it in not so funky way. I mean the color and the wheels are just right and I'm sure this one still has the original alfa romeo parts on it which is the best thing about it.
