BMC works legend Rauno Aaltonen, also known as 'The Rally Professor', returned to the Rallye Monte-Carlo in a Mini Cooper 'S' to celebrate the event's centenary.
Aaltonen's hopes of repeating his 1967 win were dashed after hitting deep snow on the second stage of the Historique event, held from 26 January-2 February.
"It was 20cm thick and we had no spikes," he lamented.
Overall honours went to Mario Sala and Maurizio Torlasco in their 911S, which was one of 249 cars to cross the line in Monte-Carlo after a final Col de Turini night stage.
The unexpected snow led to several cars sustaining damage on Stage 2. Pentti Hintikka's '76 911 was one of them. "We had to suddenly avoid someone standing on a corner and went into a ditch," he said.
Despite the off, Hintikka still managed 81st out of the 320 vehicles that took part.
