The automobile factories of Audi, Horch, DKW and Wanderer was combined under economic pressure in 1932 to Auto Union AG. In 1932, Audi introduced a new midsize car, the Audi Front 2 Liter Type UW. He had an advanced technology with front-wheel drive. For this purpose, an existing Wanderer engine was installed with the gearbox to the front (UW = umgekehrter/reversed Wanderer). Different body styles were built from 1933 at teh Horch plant and manufactured until 1938 in small quantities. From 1935 the engine was enlarged to 2.2 l .
