Austin HEALEY 3000 MK3 BJ8 Matching numbers, fully restored and revised, very well documented, great documentation (1964)

According to experts, the Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 BJ8 Sports Convertible is the finest Austin Healey ever made. It’s peak “Big Healey”. The car has been fully restored and overhauled in the past and is still in very good condition. The car is beautifully documented, including an original manual, extensive photo series of the restoration and various reports. There is also a copy of a Heritage certificate that shows that this is a matching numbers copy. The car has a very nice colour scheme consisting of a green body and a black convertible top. The BJ8 is by far the most popular Healey and when we take a seat behind the wheel it quickly becomes clear why this is the case. The engine has already been completely overhauled and the condition of this example can only be described as very good.
The body of the Healey was very well restored at the time. The car stands on a rock-hard frame that was completely repainted during the restoration. The sheet metal is nice and thin and the fits are very good. The bumpers were re-chromed at the time and are still in very good condition. The convertible top was also renewed at the time and is in very good condition. The hood fits nicely everywhere and is easy to operate. The car stands on the beautiful wire wheels that have been re-chromed and fitted with good Vredestein tires in the correct sizes. The paint was very well sprayed during the restoration and is still in a well-maintained condition. The paint has some very light traces of use but otherwise has a beautiful shine. For the extra nice days, you can neatly cover the hood with the existing tonneau cover. The additional lamps present at the front of the car are also in good condition and function as they should.
The interior was completely reupholstered at the time with a great sense of originality and with the use of beautiful materials. The wood on the dashboard has been completely repainted and looks very good. The Smith instruments are all completely original and function as they should. The seats were then reupholstered with black leather that is still very supple and in good condition. In addition, the car is equipped with new carpets that are also in good condition and fit nicely everywhere. The Austin Healey also has a beautiful original steering wheel and an overdrive. The door panels were also reupholstered at the time and also look good.
The engine and transmission are in very good condition and have been completely overhauled during the restoration and function excellently. The overdrive is easy to operate and contributes to the fact that the Healey can also be used for covering greater distances. The 2.9-liter in-line six produces 150 hp and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The combination of the relatively low car weight and the high power, combined with the large displacement volume, makes it a joy to be out and about with the Austin Healey. If we drive this Austin Healey 3000 Mk3, it is already clear after a few kilometres why the enthusiasts of the brand like to look at this type. The engine is more than sufficiently powerful, the transmission shifts precisely and not too heavily, the brakes are well-suited to their task and the chassis provides a confident road holding. In short, even after almost 60 years, it is still a pleasure to step into an Austin Healey of this type.
In short, a beautifully documented and overhauled Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 from 1964 with a beautiful colour combination and a matching numbers engine.
