Austin A40 Fully restored and mechanically rebuilt, over € 50.000 invested, very rare, stunning colour combination (1950)




The Austin A40 Devon is such a typical car that many people have already forgotten. But when you see one these days, you know it's special. Thanks to a small group of loyal enthusiasts, these wonderful cars are still kept in good condition. The A40 was one of the first post-war Austins. This example is in very good condition and has recently been fully restored, with no expense spared. In total, more than € 50,000 was invested in this car. The work has been carried out at a high level. The result cannot be described in any other way as very good.
The bodywork looks very good. The fits are correct and the sheet metal is nice and thin everywhere. The paintwork was of course completely repainted during the restoration and is therefore in beautiful condition. This work was also carried out very well and contribute to the beautiful appearance of the Austin. The car stands on original steel wheels with good tires in the correct sizes. Also matters such as the chrome strips and lighting were all addressed during the restoration. The chassis has also been completely stripped and repainted. Due to the body on frame construction of this Austin, the car was praised at the time for the high degree of comfort on board.
The inside has been completely reupholstered and looks like it could be pulled through a ring. The burgundy red leather on the seats is a beautiful combination with the brown painted dashboard. The carpets are also brown in color and have brown piping. The car has a spartan interior but all instruments and controls function as they should. The headliner has also been renewed and looks neat.
The technology has been completely overhauled in the recent past. Both the engine and transmission are therefore in very good condition. The Austin A40 Devon is powered by a 1.2 liter four-cylinder OHV engine that produces 40 horsepower at 4,200 rpm. Completely normal values ​​for that time. The engine is mated to a four-speed manual transmission that not only shifts very precisely, but also has fine gear ratios. The car is also equipped with drum brakes all round and a chassis that is mainly tuned for comfort.
In short, not only a beautiful Austin A40 Devon to see, but also an absolute rarity in view of the contemporary world.
