Description

Chassis No. B130EY
A very smart example, nicely and cheerfully painted in a handsome shade of deep red and black with excellent light tan leather interior, piped in red, which harmonises well with the exterior. A great deal of restoration work was carried out in the 1990s, and this has now matured well, resulting in an appealing car, driving nicely and with a useful history file. This includes many invoices for maintenance and repairs from the 1980s through to 2021. There are also other documents, including an MoT certificate from 1960, the first year in which they were issued! Complete with tools in the slide out under-dash tray, fitted with an excellent set of Avon radial tyres which suit the car particularly well both visually and from a driving point of view, serviced and MoT tested.

Snippets: The Family of Doctors
B130EY was delivered to David William Currie (1903/1979), an eminent surgeon, at his home Adel Brow, Alwoodley on the outskirts of Leeds.  Although David’s father was a wholesale clothier his brother, uncle, nephew & son all became medical men!   Simon, David’s son became a neurologist, David’s older brother Donald became a surgeon & during WWII served with the Leed’s Rifles; David’s nephew James qualified as a General Practitioner. The 1st generation of medical men was David & Donald’s uncle - Hugh Brown Currie (1872/1915), he had qualified as a surgeon in Glasgow prior to moving to the Transvaal where he served during the Siege of Ladysmith with the rank of Surgeon-Captain in the Imperial Light Infantry.  Hugh Currie was honoured with the South African Medal & Clasps.  When David William Currie qualified as a Bachelor of Surgery in 1927 he was just 24 and within 3 years he became a MRCOG specialising in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.  In 1923 David played for Otley Rugby Club and as such was selected to play for Yorkshire County against Cumberland County, Cumberland came second.
