Description
The Citroën 2CV is perhaps one of the most expressive and important cars in the history of the automobile, especially when we talk about French cars. Not only does the car, like the Volkswagen Beetle in Germany and Fiat 500 in Italy, ensure that the working class can purchase a car, after the Second World War, the 2CV ensures that the French economy gets a boost and of course through many additional jobs.
In 1957, this very distinctive 2CV ‘ribbed hood’ rolled off the production line, the original model. Over 100,000 were built in that year alone, but we don’t need to tell you that most of them went to the eternal hunting grounds. This blue 2CV was spared that fate and was recently beautifully restored. Not as often happened in the 1980s and 1990s, by means of filler and minimal budget, but as it pays off today with such a car: completely bare and then brought back to new condition through craftsmanship.
So this is a beautiful ‘Duck’ in a formidable condition. The body is as it should be, including fits and seams as are typical for a 2CV. The paint is in optimal condition with a beautiful but not too modern shine. ‘Duck number 350167’ was painted in a beautiful gray-blue color during the restoration. The connoisseur will then know that this is not original, since in 1957 all 2CVs were still delivered in gray. The bottom of this ‘ribbed hood’ is just as beautiful as the top, which has also been completely restored.
The interior was also not left out during the restoration. Of course, a lot of steel can be seen in the body color of a 2CV, but the other things are also like new: the seats have been restored, with both the paint and the upholstery as new. The controls and the minimalist dashboard with the speedometer mounted to the left of the steering wheel are all in top condition. That speedometer is almost certainly left original, with switching moments on the ‘glass’ and the mileage behind it just visible. We call that a very desirable patina.
Technically, the 2CV is very good and that is noticeable when driving. Do not expect the 425 cc measuring two-cylinder to provide sporty aspirations with its 12 hp of power, but every meter with a 2CV provides a lot of fun. Few classics have such driving characteristics as this Citroën.
In short: an early Citroën 2CV, without work but with mountains of appearance. What a pleasure!
