History

The Nissan S30 (sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z and in other markets as the Datsun 240Z, then later as the 260Z and 280Z) is the first generation of Z GT 3-door two-seat coupés, produced by Nissan Motors, Ltd. of Japan from 1969 until 1978. One of the most successful sports car lines ever produced, the trend-setting S30 was conceived of by Yutaka Katayama, the President of Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A. and designed by a team led by Yoshihiko Matsuo, the head of Nissan’s Sports Car Styling Studio.
Seeking to compete head-to-head with established European sports cars, Datsun priced the new 240Z within $200 of the British MGB-GT in the United States, a five-year-old design that showed its age. The 240Z’s sleek styling, modern engineering, relatively low price, and impressive performance struck a major chord with the public. Positive response from both buyers and the motoring press was immediate, and dealers soon had long waiting lists for the “Z”.
As a “halo” car, the 240Z broadened the acceptance of Japanese car-makers beyond their econobox image. Datsun’s growing dealer network—compared to limited production imported sports cars manufactured by Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat—ensured both easy purchase and ready maintenance.
All variants of the S30 have four-wheel independent suspension consisting of MacPherson struts in front (borrowed from the Nissan Laurel C30) and Chapman struts in back. Front disc brakes and rear drums were standard.

Example Offered

A remarkable early Z car of the first series. Was sitting last several years and has come to life with a major service and a hand detail performed by experts in the field. The original paint other than a few natural blemishes is outstanding to say least. Cosmetics in engine bay and jams are in amazingly original excellent condition.
The Red oxide interior sets off a beautiful contrast to the off white [creme] paint. Most if not all materials are as per factory circa 1973! All in excellent original condition. All items working except the clock.
Mechanically transmission shifts as a 31k mi car should, smooth and precise. Brakes have had work and stop well. New regular size Hancook tires have been fitted and balanced on the Slotted alloy period rims. Radiator been serviced along with all fluids. This car drives very well indeed showing strong pull with sound suspension. Engine is original to the car with excellent compression.
Chrome is all original and other bright work as well is in remarkable condition for its age.
A time capsule example that’s rare in this type of condition with single ownership. Car has been recently serviced along new tires. It’s very ready to be driven and enjoyed as a 240Z should be. Comes with 50 years of single caring ownership.
It comes in the desirable Kilimanjaro White with Blood oxide [Red] interior. Tools and handbooks accompany car and are in excellent condition.
Interior is mostly unblemished with a little wear on driver seat bolster. Engine bay show out to be super clean and original.
