Delahaye 148L Open Tourer 135S hommage, stunning car, very quick (1948)

What a tough looking car this is. A Delahaye transformed as a homage into a pre-war LeMans racer. The car has been rebuilt from top to toe in order for long-distance travel. Basically a “normal” Delahaye 148L converted to an open-top 135S tourer with mechanics to match.
The bodywork is completely new and a lot lighter than the original. The alignment is spot on and clearly the work of professionals. It has been given a strikingly blue finish, the wire wheels being colour-coded as was common back then. The car’s neat presentation overall reveals its fine lines.
Inside we see the expected Spartan décor, finished to a high standard. There are new carpets and splendid supple leather upholstery on the bucket seats. All of the instruments are newly fitted and are in correct working order. The dashboard has also been colour-coded to match the exterior.
Mechanically we have a very solid 3.6 litre straight-six fed by three Solex carburettors. The standard single carburettor engine develops just shy of 100 hp. This car feels a lot faster, no doubt helped by its lighter bodywork. The engine is coupled to a manual 4-speed gearbox that works well and has pleasant gear-ratios. The four drum brakes dissipate any speed without fuss.
In short this is a rather special Delahaye, ready and eager to tackle any long rally you enter or to be enjoyed at ones leisure.
