PRICE REDUCTION! Well that was quite something, when GM came up with the Dodge Viper. The newspapers were full of it, car magazines couldn’t get enough of it and in the United States people were queuing to order a car. In Europe, the enthusiasm for the Viper was somewhat less, but we can still speak of a very good reception. Initially, the car in its first generation (1991 -1995) was only available as Targa, in 1996 the second generation came on the market as the coupé shown here: GTS. The most striking styling part of the Viper GTS is the Double bouble roof. The roof was given the double bouble so that driver and co-driver can wear a helmet on the circuit. The Viper is powered by a massive 7,990cc V10 engine that delivers 450 horsepower in this generation. Until 1999, Dodge supplied the Viper with an engine that contained forged pistons. This makes the Viper a very suitable candidate for supercharging the engine. That is exactly what happened with this copy. The 450 hp were experienced as too little by the previous owner and he provided the engine with a supercharger. The rest of the car was of course also tackled to cope with this enormous power increase.
The bodywork is a different story. The car is in the first paint all around. The car was initially delivered new by a German Chrysler dealer to a real Viper enthusiast. He only used the car in good weather and special occasions. The car was then sold to an absolute enthusiast in Sweden who spectacularly lifted the car to the level the car is now at. The body is completely original and has correct fits. The sheet metal fits beautifully everywhere and the car is in the first paint all around. The car sits on beautiful high quality forged alloy wheels fitted with Toyo Semislicks. When we look in the rims we see a big brake kit from Brembo. The car is completely original on the outside and looks beautiful.
The interior has been functionally modified for the extra power. For example, there is a gear lever from the center tunnel with which you operate the sequential transmission and there are extra meters available to keep an eye on the status of the E85 tank. In addition, we see gauges to indicate which gear you are in, when to shift gear, how much boost the engine delivers and all temperatures. In short: you will not be short of information. The previous owner’s aim was to build the car in such a way that it is possible to attack a circuit but it is equally possible to make a long tour with it. So the standard seats have remained. They are comfortable and offer more than enough support when you are going to attack corners. The standard steering wheel was replaced by a sporty three-spoke steering wheel covered with Alcantara, thus completing the driver’s workplace.
That workplace must also be serious because the power of this car is also extremely serious. The engine has been completely disassembled and equipped with a special crankshaft by Comp camshaft, special low compression pistons, a Roe Supercharger, carbon inlet. The engine was then mated to a Sellholm sequential gearbox and the car was fitted with a different chassis. The aforementioned Brembo big brake kit completes the picture. Let’s get straight to the point: this is not a beginner’s car. The Viper is known as a crafty car that bites when you least expect it. This car bites just a little harder than a standard model. The previous owner, on the other hand, has tuned the car very well so that the power comes in nicely evenly, the alignment is quite neutral to keep the limit range as wide as possible and to give the car a clear feeling when the limit comes into view. The technology is of course top-maintained and in excellent condition. The engine is tuned for E85 fuel and it will come as no surprise that the Viper has a huge thirst when you start to use the power.
The car will be delivered including the original board folder. In short, an extremely serious Dodge Viper. A car that has been built to a very high standard and can offer years of challenge to someone who not only knows how to appreciate the car but is also willing to invest time in getting to know the car.
