Ford Mustang Fully restored and mechanically rebuilt condition, 5.8 litre engine, stunning documentation (1968)

All-embracing would probably be the best way to describe the restoration of this 1968 Ford Mustang Coupé. The car was bought by the previous owner as a project. At that stage the Mustang had already been partially dismantled with someone having made a start on restoring the car. This was just a very tentative start, with a long way still to go. The car was taken back to bare metal en given quite a lot of new panelwork. Following on the car was resprayed in beautiful Mystic Blue with Wimbledon White stripes. Finally they choose to swap the worn out original engine with a new 5.8 litre Windsor V8 producing 300 Ps. The whole restoration took nearly 10 years and was highly detailed and of great quality. As if the former was not enough the whole process has been beautifully documented.
The bodywork presents exactly as you would expect after reading the first paragraph: Perfect! The nice and thin panelwork aligns very neatly. The quality of the paintwork was carried out to a high standard and still has a lovely lustre. The car stands proudly on great American Racing rims shod in good quality and correctly sized tyres. The wheels looks great next to the new bumpers and window brightwork. A second wing mirror was also fitted. At the rear we get an eyeful of completely new Flowmaster double exhaust as well as new taillights, which really forms the icing on the cake of its external appearance.
The interior, including the headlining, has been fully reupholstered with the same fanatical attention to detail. The seats have vinyl covers and look splendid. The high quality carpets look good and have been expertly fitted. The dashboard as well is in fine fettle. All of the, mainly new, gauges and controls look great. The car has a lovely wooden three-spoke steering wheels
Mechanically the car is also in excellent order. The 5.8 litre V8 delivers 300 Ps which is transferred by a 3-speed automatic transmission. The previous owner again took great care when it came to this part of the restoration. He fitted
several Edelbrock parts and the head was fitted with hydraulic valves. The aluminium radiator has more than enough capacity to prevent the engine form overheating. The ignition was modified to a MSD ignition. It also was fitted with front disc brakes, power steering, aluminium head covers and a rear traction bar to cope with the extra power.
The car is splendidly documented with an extensive photo album, invoices, order forms and general information, all contained in over two files. All in all over € 75,000 was invested in the car. This Ford Mustang Coupé not only looks the part but thanks to its’ 300 horse powered Winsor V8 it more than justifies its sporty presence.
