FORD MUSTANG 428 CobraJet Mach.1 (1969) For sale from Universal Classic Cars , in Hampshire, United Kingdom

Towards the end of 1968 Ford extended the length of their Mustangs to accommodate the much larger 428cu Cobra Jet engines, thus creating the first of the Mach 1s. The car you see here is an original Q-Code fastback Mach 1 in a very rare ‘Gulfstream Aqua’, with black ‘Comfortweave’ interior and a C6 automatic transmission. The car has undergone a full restoration in California, completed over 5 years ago. It has since benefited from sympathetic upgrades with the view to make it a useable touring car for the roads of Europe. These easily-reversible upgrades were completed by the well-respected and known Mustang Workshop ltd.
These upgrades are as follows. A full Dakota digital dashboard instrumentation, providing accurate and reliable engine metrics. Gear Vendors under/overdrive unit fitted to the gearbox giving either 4th gear overdrive, or overdrive in each gear, effectively creating a 6-speed auto box. 3.0 final drive on Detroit locker rear, giving 2500 rpm at 80mph. Willwood 6-pot Dynalite front disc brake upgrade. 15x7” front Torque Thruster 2 wheels, with 15x8” rears. Enhanced radiator with Evans waterless coolant. Subtle ‘428 CobraJet’ emblems, replacing the stock quarter panel medallions. Fully-functional Shaker hood. Carpeted boot. Modern space-saver spare tyre.
The car also has the desirable fold-down rear seat along with the infamous louvered rear screen. It has completed road trips through France and Spain, as well as various Mustang club events over the years. Stored in our dedicated dehumidified storage facility, it is a stunning and exceptionally rare example of a ’69 Mustang, and now is the chance to own something visually outstanding to pretty much anything else on the road.
