Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 OTS (1961)

This early 'Flat Floor', 'Outside Bonnet Lock' E-Type OTS was the 52nd car built. One of only 91 such cars produced it is an original UK, right-hand drive car. It was dispatched to Henley's of London on the 14th of July 1961. This E-Type features in the famous photo of the first 60 cars lined up outside Browns Lane ready for delivery in July 1961.
This E-Type has been maintained impeccably by mark specialists. The colour was originally Opalescent Gunmetal but was restored in 1994 with Opalescent Silver paintwork. The restoration was a full nut and bolt restoration and the car has only done approximately 14,000 miles since then. A photographic record is available. A thick leather-bound history file accompanies the car. The very rare original tool roll is also present.
The early history of the car was lost in the Henly's flood when all records were lost. According to the DVLA, it has had only two previous owners before the vendor.
Mechanically this car is superb throughout. Out on the road the 3.8 litre engine delivers smooth, torquey performance from low revs urging the car forward. As you move up the rev range the power really kicks in. The gear change is excellent, although a little patience is required between gears, making you question the negative comments some aim towards the gearboxes in these early cars. What strikes you more than anything as you look down that beautiful bonnet and guide the car though twisting country roads is the exceptional poise and road holding. This truly is an exceptional sports car to drive and the whole thing is made to feel almost effortless by the wonderful design and engineering.
The car participated in the Jaguar E-Type Round Britain Coastal Drive for Prostate Cancer in 2018 as well as touring the New Forest in 2020. It also attended the E-Type 60 festival at Shelsley Walsh in 2021 and took part in the hillclimb event there.
This is an opportunity to own not just an exceptionally rare Jaguar but also on in exquisite condition throughout. There are few experiences in life that compare to driving an E-Type. Enzo Ferrari once said, "Jaguar's E-Type is the most beautiful car in the world" but he failed to add, perhaps deliberately, that it is also one of the best cars to drive in the world.
