Seller’s Description:
When the Jaguar XK120 hit the marketplace in 1948, it took the motoring world by storm. To this day, the Jaguar XK120 is still considered by many to be rolling sculpture, with the performance to match it's elegant proportions. This example is a matching numbers car, fitted with the desirable C-type cylinder head. Done in its original color combination of fiery carmine red over biscuit interior, this XK120 is accompanied by its Jaguar Heritage Certificate.
With molded (non-chrome) signal lights, and without rear view mirrors on the fenders, there is nothing to distract admirers from the flowing lines. Completed by the rear skirts and beauty rings on the front, this is considered by many to be the purist form of the XK120.
The current owners searched for 5 years, and looked at over 20 examples before purchasing this XK120. The car was located in Malibu California and after a careful inspection, a deal was struck. The new owner and her husband immediately drove up the coast on the beautiful Big Sur Coast Highway 1 to their destination, XK's Unlimited. XK's Unlimited is recognized as one of the premier classic Jaguar restoration shops. While the car ran and drove well, to insure trouble free miles the car underwent an extensive mechanical overhaul. After 2 months in XK's Unlimited's care, all systems were gone through, and mechanics attended to even the smallest of details requested by the owner.
While we consider this example “a driver”, it often wins over “trailer queens” at Concours and local events. This car shows very well, and attracts attention everywhere it goes. Going over the body, the paint work has been done to a very high standard. Upon very close inspection, the left front wing has a very small spot that has been touched up. As a driver, there are only minor imperfections that are difficult to notice without close inspection.
Under the bonnet the 3.8 liter is very tidy, with its C type head, and twin SU carburetors – complete with air filters. Original tools are in their appropriate places, while even a proper Lucas coil has been fitted. The porcelain exhaust manifold is in good condition for a frequently driven example, attaching to the dual stainless steel exhaust pipes. An electric fan has been added, but it rarely is necessary.
Continuing to walk around the car, you will note a period correct mirror has been discretely fitted to aid the driver. As you enter the cockpit, a the sumptuous leather interior welcomes you. Exceedingly clean biscuit carpets line the cockpit, with drivers pedals showing no sign of ware. The biscuit door panels with properly lined compartments also display wonderfully. Door seals all are all fresh, and do not require any attention. The Smiths gauges all show well and are operational, aside from the clock. While the heater works, period correct wind wings offer additional shelter from the wind. Should the weather turn, full side curtains are included (still in the wrapping).
The convertible top is very nicely trimmed with a clear rear window, and fits very well. As you make your way to the rear of this XK120, the boot is also trimmed in the biscuit leather. The boot is complete with its tools, and tool roll. The spare tire compartment is spotless, as is the chassis underneath.
This XK 120 roadster drives wonderfully, tracks well and is an absolute joy to drive - particularly at speeds in excess of 60 mph. The dual exhaust pipes are a very nice touch, and provide a brilliant sound as you shift thru the gears! You will be hard pressed to find such a well sorted driver at this price point…. this is the quintessential Jaguar roadster.
