A really lovely dark blue Jaguar XK150 drop head coupe which has to be seen to be appreciated! (1959)

This lovely 3.4 litre XK150 on chassis number 827304DN with its correct engine number V6598-8 comes with its original buff card log book which shows that it was first owned by British record producer, composer, arranger, pianist, bandleader and orchestral conductor Norrie Paramor who worked with and managed a host of top-line singing stars in the 1950s, 60s and 70s such as Cliff Richard, Michael Holliday, Ruby Murray, Helen Shapiro, Frank Ifield and Eddie Calvert.
The log book records its owners up to the 1970s, the last one being a Mr. Andrew Rochford of Stansted in Essex. It shows that the car had a series of private number plates with Mr. Paramor having WXN1 on the car then in 1962 Mr George Michael Dungworth had number GMD444 which I imagine he kept when he sold it as it was subsequently issued with its current number 3554RA.
The next DVLA record of the car is a letter to Mr. M. B. Gray of Maidstone dated October 1983 which confirms that it will be reissued with its 3554RA number once a proposed restoration has been completed so I assume it had been off the road for a while.
The first V5 registration document in the file was issued to a Mr Anthony Blakemore in 1996 which is significant as the car comes with a set of 160 photographs recording its total strip down and ground up restoration carried out for him by Jaguar Specialist John May of Gloucester. The first picture shows the car arriving in a complete but untidy state in June 1993 and the last picture shows the completed car in June 1994.
Several of the photos show it being exhibited in rolling chassis form with a display board which notes that it has a fully balanced and lightened engine fitted with ‘D’ camshafts, an unleaded fuel conversion, an all synchromesh gearbox with overdrive, a diaphragm clutch and uprated suspension. An MoT certificate dated November 1995 records its mileage as 19,910 and we have an almost complete set of MoTs with the latest recording its mileage as 34,464 on 19th August 2015. Its odometer reading on 4th September 2020 is 39,984 so it has only covered about 20,000 miles since its total rebuild!
Mr Blakemore was clearly a very fastidious owner as there are invoices in the file for £13,200 he spent on servicing and maintaining the car over his next 20 years of ownership, mainly with Jaguar specialist Guy Broad. This, combined with his full restoration of it, no doubt explains its excellent condition today. The current owner bought the car from Mr Blakemore through a specialist Jaguar dealer in August 2015.
The car has inevitably mellowed just a little bit since the restoration but it looks just right and it is really good to drive with everything working properly. All of the mechanical components feel and sound like they are in top class condition so the car performs really well and is a delight to drive.
I have always thought that it is very hard to beat a Jaguar XK for sheer elegance and driveability and if ever a range of cars had really got it right for looks and performance then the XK120s, 140s and 150s most certainly did and this one is a very fine example!
