Lincoln was the sole American manufacturer, other than Rambler, to offer a complete restyle of a top-line vehicle in 1956, and the results nearly doubled their 1955 sales. Inspired by the Futura show car, the cars were seven inches longer, wider, and featured sharp angular lines. Lincoln finally caught up with other manufacturers and offered a wraparound windshield for the first time, the biggest in the industry. The Premiere was Lincoln's new top-of-the-line model and featured a unique eight-pointed star medallion along with gold Premiere nameplates. The company boldly referred to the car as "the longest, lowest, most powerful, and most wanted Lincoln of all time." Ads claimed that women considered Lincoln "easier to drive than even a small car." This was no small attempt to play catch-up with rival Cadillac and broaden its market appeal, yet sales remained only a third that of Cadillac. In addition to the updated styling, the Premiere rode on a new chassis with full box-section rails, while the True-Power V-8 engine grew to 368-cubic-inches and 285 horsepower with dual exhaust. It is one of the easiest-driving full-sized classics and, without a doubt, one of the most roomy and comfortable cars of the era.
The Premiere convertible offered here is a very well-preserved restoration that was purchased by our consignor in 2010. It is finished in the factory-correct Starmist White with a black top and red and white leather interior that still shows in excellent condition. The interior is massive, easily seating six adults, and a full complement of manuals and service records are provided with your purchase. Power accessories include windows, seats, and antenna, with the factory radio, heater, and clock also in place. There are few cars that arrive with the presence of a drop-top Lincoln, and today is your chance to own one of the very best.
It is simply one of the most accurately restored examples of this rare model to be offered in some time and offers our bidders a unique opportunity to own a piece of Lincoln history.
