Description

A vintage W108 Mercedes-Benz is a wonderful addition to any collection.  These cars command the same amount of respect as a Rolls-Royce, however are much more affordable to maintain.  This W108 is equipped with the 4.5 liter V8 fuel injected engine, which carries this luxury sedan most adequately.  Prior models were fitted with a 6 cylinder engine, until Mercedes offered the smaller 3.5 V8.  The W108 chassis is carried by coil springs vs the complex air suspension of the W109, which simplifies long term ownership costs.

This example was originally sold new in York Pennsylvania to Anna M. Smith of York Springs.  The car was delivered on September 23, 1972, and is a two owner example.  A thick original owners envelope accompanies the car, consisting of the owners manuals, service manuals, Mercedes-Benz dealer directory, Becker Grand Prix manual, and more.  However, most impressive is that it still retains its original protect-o-plate!

Inside the car, you’re surrounded by very smart rich interior.  The wooden dash board and VDO instruments are in very good condition.  The dash pad is in very good condition, although the wooden windshield trim has begun to delaminate.  The heater control levers impressively are not broken, and the original radio and power antenna also still work well.  All electric windows and sunroof operate as they should, as does the “fasten seat belt” buzzer which functions if you’re seatbelt is not fastened (when the car is in gear).  The leather seats are in only fair condition, however the wear is mainly contained to the drivers’ seat.

The color code 430 H is Mercedes Harvest / Autumn Beige, although it has been resprayed at some point in the past.  Overall the body is quite clean, with only a small hole in the exterior of the passengers foot well, and in the drivers side trunk well (both photographed).  The underside is remarkably tidy, with excellent rockers.  Nicks and chips can be seen in the pictures, and only noticed upon close inspection.  This 4.5 runs and drives very well, having been recently serviced.  This is a powerful classic boulevard cruiser!
