Description

Welcome to the sale of this MGB Roadster. With only 5 previous owners and a comprehensive rebuild this must be one of the best on the market. We have more pictures to follow this week but of course any Classic Car is best viewed which we welcome by appointment.
Registered in June 1964 this stunning car has had over £20,000 invested during an extensive rebuild in 2012 - 2013. It has covered less than 2000 miles since and is still in freshly restored condition and has never seen the rain. This car was sent to Classic and Retro, Castle Hedingham, Essex (who are happy to discuss the work carried out) and this car had the following work carried out (amongst many other things):
Car completely stripped and blasted. Boot floor, inner arch, sill kit, cross member, spring mounts, lower quarter repairs, floor pans, floor corners, door frame lower section, front wing and rear wings and doors all replaced. Shell turned over and spring hangers, jacking points, battery trays, chassis rails fitted. All joints and repairs seam sealed and underside of car painted in black stone chip. The car has never been wet since this work was completed. The car was then refinished in Old English White (a change from the original Green)
Engine work includes: New pistons, unleaded head, big end main bearings, camshaft, timing chain, and oil pump (total cost of rebuild to engine £1594).
Other work includes a new clutch and cylinder, poly bushes all around, hi torque starter motor, new discs and pads with master cylinder,  bump stops, gearbox mounts, fuel tank repaired, front stub axles, engine mounts, electronic ignition and new coil, new springs, shocks, rebuilt heater, strip and rebuild carbs, reconditioned lights and indicators, new fuel lines and brake lines, spin on oil filter conversion,  new water pump, new radiator, steering rack, wiring loom, all window seals, pedal box, anti-roll bars, new red leather interior with new webbing and foam. It was then fitted a new set of wire spoke wheels with tyres.
The mileage when the restoration started in 2012 was 50386 miles. It now reads just under 52400. Truly no expense has been spared to make this one of the very best early roadsters on the road today – surely a blue-chip investment car that can go only go up in value.
This car drives extremely well and feels very ‘tight’. It sounds great and with the original large steering wheel has the true classic car experience. The two-piece hood is excellent (as new) and it has a full tonneau cover. This car is ready to go anywhere you might to venture.
It has a clear MOT until March 2020 (and a record of old MOTS back to 2011). It is of course road tax free and very reasonable classic insurance makes this car better than money in the bank with nothing to do but enjoy.
If you can find a suitable early donor car (this was registered June  64 (according to the vin number and DVLA website) and then have this work carried out you would probably have to wait well over a year and spend more than 25K. Being hyper critical there is a small paint blemish on the front of the bonnet as a result of stone chip – we are happy to have this repaired at your cost should you wish. The car comes complete with its driver’s handbook and the sales catalogue for the 64 MG Roadster which highlights this model and colour of car.
There really are not many 1964 cars in this order, and ones that would have competed in the marketplace in the 60s are achieving extremely high prices so this investment can only go one way. There are many photos available of all the work carried out which can be supplied with the car.
This car was off the road for some time in its history, so we are confident that it is all correct. However, the DVLA Logbook have it as green (which it was before the strip down of many layers of paint and resprayed) and have it as a 1979 car. The VIN number matches the 64 build specification and the DVLA MOT website has it as the June 1964 build that it is.By all accounts, the five-bearing engine of 1964 onward is the stronger engine and with the full rebuild this one is ready for action. This car has been used in a professional photo shoot for Max Factor - follow the link on our website to see it!
Any inspection is of course welcome.  We can assist with delivery at cost anywhere in the UK.
