This Morgan 4/4 is rather special. First sold in February 1980 by Phoenix Motors of Exeter, the first owner was the local MSCC centre secretary who kept it for 6 years. Since then it has had a further 4 owners. In 1990 it had a major engine upgrade and at the same time new wings and some paint work.
The engine upgrade in 1990 on the Ford Kent unit was carried out by a professional engine builder, John Hadwick of Lynx Engines. The upgrade included increased capacity to 1702cc, twin 40 Webers with K&N filters, big valves, solid rockers, lightened and balanced flywheel, balanced crank and con rods, Lotus twin cam pistons, gas flowed, Piper asymetric 235/2 cam, 10/1 compression ratio, electronic ignition. In 2015 on a rolling road it was recorded as producing 119 bhp.
Between August 2001 and June 2003 the car was fully rebuilt by Four Elms Morgan. This extensive rebuild included a completely new galvanised 5 speed chassis with +8 type gusseting. All body panels are new and with the exception of the n/s door made from aluminum. The bonnet has a professionally fabricated bonnet scoop to clear the K&N filters.
Over the years a considerable amount of money and time has been spent upgrading and improving this car. These have included upgraded front and rear suspension, addition of a stainless steel Harpers big bore exhaust and manifold. It has had a completely new wiring loom, addition of engine cutout , upgraded electric Red Top fuel pump, Kenlow fan, Aeroquip brake lines, Gemmer steering box and a high torque starter motor.
More recently in 2021 the entire interior was stripped out and retrimmed (excluding seats) with new green leather and matching carpets.
In terms of exterior condition this Morgan looks fabulous. The paintwork retains a really good deep lustre with only a few very small blemishes. The wheels look nearly new and the interior looks immaculate. This is a car that needs to be driven to be appreciated. Its upgraded engine means the car has considerably more performance than a standard 4/4 of this period.
The car comes with a considerable amount of history and receipts for work carried out over the years. It can be viewed in our showroom.
