Description
1954 MG TF – original UK RHD - present owner 20 years
The final model of the legendary ‘T’ Series MGs, the TF, was launched on 15th October 1953. It featured the TD Mark ll engine and was of far more modern appearance, with a sloping radiator and headlamps faired into the wings. The cooling system was now pressurised, so the traditional external radiator cap was now a dummy item.
The interior was more comfortable, with twin bucket seats in place of the previous bench type arrangement and the dash boasted octagonal instrumentation, as seen on the contemporary ‘Y’ Type saloon.
As with previous MG models, the TF was to prove popular in the United States, with the bulk of production being exported, so of the 9,600 TF models built, only a small percentage were to remain on the home market and this particular example is one such car. It would appear to have been well cared for over the years, as other than a sympathetic restoration around 20 years ago, it remains largely to original specification with the optional wire wheels.
The MG has been lovingly cared for has been used only in fine weather. The hood, sidescreens and tonneau cover are all in good condition and the black coachwork is smart as is the brightwork. Radial tyres are fitted and the car drives very well having been very carefully maintained. She has a current MOT valid to October 2023. There is history dating back to 1958 and many bills. Included is the correct original handbook and workshop manual plus a very rare copy of the Special Tuning handbook for the XPAG engine.
