History
There was a time when the F1 world champion's car was relegated to the lower series, in the cadet formula, ending up soundly beaten by the competitors, younger, more agile and at ease.
And all this happened not a century ago, but during the 1985 season, in a strange, highly original and absolutely worthy of remembering context.
At the end of 1983, the F1 car and engine fleet is in decommissioning and work is being done to find an intelligent way to recycle everything.
Nothing better than to kill the old and beloved F.2, giving life to the new category called F3000, with the displacement of the iconic Ford Cosworth, the backbone of the new cadet formula.
Free frames and the possibility of running the old F1 cars with aspirated engines, but with a rotation speed limited to 9000 rpm.
The 1985 season of the European Formula 3000 initially planned on 11 races, was actually disputed only on 10. 14 Teams with 33 drivers took part and represented the debut of this glorious category.
Thanks to its excellent balance, the March 85B was the car to beat in the inaugural season of the F3000 which saw Christian Danner triumph at the wheel of a privately registered model.
Our March F3000
This March 85B -16 is complete with all its mechanical parts and bodywork.
The car participated with the no. 21 at the first Formula 3000 Championship in 1985, led by Juan Fangio II, grandson of the legend of motoring.
Among his best placements, two sixth places on the Pau and Spa-Francorchamps circuits.
