1949 Packard Eight Series 23 “Golden Anniversary” Sedan (1949)

1949 Packard Eight Series 23 “Golden Anniversary” Sedan
#H221702239251187. (Stock #4004.)
The Golden Anniversary Packards, built in the last half of
1949, celebrated the 50 th year of production of Packard
Motorcars. They differed from the standard 1949 Packard
Eight Series 22 cars in many discreet ways: the rear window
was 33% larger than standard, the car wore a “Goddess of
Speed” mascot in the front center of the hood, a thin chrome
spear ran the length of the car in the middle of the doors and
fenders, Packard lettering, underlined with chrome trim,
was installed above that molding on both sides, that same
lettering was also installed on the dashboard between the
speedometer and the clock, the taillight lenses were set in
protruding oval-shaped housings, the chrome front bumper
had the painted centers replaced with chrome and there
were many other subtle differences. The car is powered by
its original 288 cubic inch, 5 main bearing, straight eight
engine with solid lifters and a Carter 2-barrell carburetor
and the car sports a 3-speed manual transmission.
Repainted in its original burgundy color, the car has a
completely original but worn interior, original width wide
whitewall tires and drives amazingly well. Odometer
reading: 29,507.
