PEUGEOT 205 GTI 1991 (1991)

*PRICE REDUCED* Offered for a sale on behalf of a client is this stunningly presented Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9.
Peugeot's 205 was a multi-award winning car, and Peugeot first conceived the 205 GTI in 1984, before launching the 1.9 variety alongside the 1.6 in 1986. To enthusiasts, this a 'Holy Grail' car, being a Phase Two 1.9 'pre-cat', where the car requires no power-sapping catalytic converter for emissions control, but also crucially fitted with power steering, a rare and desirable option on a late model and which was usually only fitted to the post-cat models. This combination of key ingredients makes for an incredibly dynamic and exhilarating drive, and makes this 205 GTI a very special car with a truly special array of options.
The GTI battle of the '80s was definitely 205 vs. VW Golf, and to many people, the 205 came out ahead with its legendary Peugeot chassis and simple but attractive design; a true classic that many people hold in high esteem.
These vehicles were often modified and also unfortunately often stolen in the 1990s due to their popularity.
This particular example, as shown by the clear HPI check included in the sale, has never been stolen/recovered, and is mercifully totally original and standard, even down to the period-correct Blaupunkt tape/radio fitted.
It is a superb drive, different to so many modern road cars, being raw, visceral and a true driver's car. Modern tyre technology has tamed the once-savage lift-off oversteer these cars present with, but it is still a powerful engine in a very light body and needs to be driven with respect. In return, it rewards the driver with enjoyment and feedback unlike many other cars on the road.
Registered in 1991 to a lady owner who kept it for 26 years, the vehicle has only had two more owners since, with our client only selling due to an upcoming international relocation.
The recorded mileage of under 153,000 is deemed correct from HPI checks and various previous MOT records, and equates to under 5,500 miles per annum.
The car itself has recently undergone a mini-restoration including some restorative paintwork to the outside of the vehicle and a partial respray to keep it looking fresh, as well as a full machine polish, and the original Speedline wheels have been beautifully refurbished in the correct Peugeot shade of silver.
It is finished in Alpine white with attractive (and well-maintained) interior comprising of half-leather with red and black fabric detailing, and matching red carpets (in very good condition). The whole interior is equally well-looked after, with no dashboard or plastic cracks and presents very well indeed.
However, surely the feature that any buyer will appreciate the most is the veritable mountain of paperwork and history with this car - it has true provenance, from the business card of the original supplying dealer, to a copy of the original sales brochure, through to pretty much every invoice, receipt and service bill, all presented together in a folder.
The car itself is in superb condition and is clearly a credit to how well it has been looked after, and drives excellently, pulling hard in all gears, cleanly and smoothly with no untoward noises or vibrations.
It has the usual 205 GTI specification of electric front windows, manual 'vacuum' glass sliding sunroof (no leaks) and period-correct Blaupunkt stereo/tape player.
It has MOT until October 2018 and, as previously mentioned, this is complemented by a full record of history and servicing, alongside original brochure, and both keys as well as remote fob (currently inoperative).
If required, we are able to arrange a fresh MOT at the buyer's request.
Viewings and any further enquiries are strongly advised.
We regret that, due to the age and mileage of the vehicle, our underwriters are unable to offer a vehicle warranty but we welcome an independent vehicle inspection.
Guide Price £8,495.
