Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 3 Fully revised, very well documented, long term ownership (1963)

The 1962 Paris car show saw the introduction of the third Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud generation. We have an early car from 1963. Between 1963 and 1966 Rolls-Royce built a total of 2,044 third generation Silver Clouds. This car formed part of a fanatic Rolls-Royce collector’s possessions. Although it has a white finish, it was spared the fate of being used as a wedding car. The car has already been given a thorough refurbishment. The bodywork was taken back to bare metal and where necessary repaired before being professionally extremely well resprayed. The combination of the warm Spanish climate and good maintenance have helped avoid the need for a body-off restoration. The chassis is also in a very good state. The properly cared for panelwork is overall finely aligned. The bumper and other brightwork also look great.
The interior takes you back to by-gone days. The well maintained leather and carpets are completely original and have started to develop a fine patina. The wholly original wooden dashboard looks fabulous. The instrument panel and controls are exactly what you would expect from a car in this segment, all top quality and in correct working order. As is “de rigueur” with Rolls-Royce, the right rear seating is the most important spot. This Silver Cloud 3 is no exception. The passengers in the back not only have a sea of space but also their own mirror, cigar lighter and burr walnut folding tables with its supple action. All of this looks grand.
Mechanically this Rolls-Royce has enjoyed good maintenance including a recent thorough service. During the latter for instance the carburettor was rebuilt, the whole steering system was replaced, new brakes were installed all-around, the widow rubber mouldings were replaced as well as fitting a new starter motor and radiator. As is well known fact, the 6.2 litre V8 tappet engine is practically indestructible. Rolls-Royce always typified its power as being adequate, which in the real world meant it produced more or less 200 horsepower. The engine transfers it power through a supple 4-speed automatic. The suspension is set at delivering the upmost comfort in filtering out any road unevenness. The brakes too perfectly slow the car down in a fashion almost imperceptible to the passengers.
This 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud 3 comes with an extensive amount of documentation. The original owner’s manual has survived in a very good state. There is also a sizeable file containing many invoices, old registration papers and other miscellaneous information. The documentation allows you to appreciate the not
inconsiderable love expended on this fabulously preserved Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud 3 over the last six decennia.
