Description
Chassis No. SNF109
Having spent the whole of its life in Australia until 2015, this car is in remarkably sound, rust free condition – very important for these models. In addition, the car is a desirable 4½ litre example, in smart condition, finished in its original colour scheme of Ivory and black, and has a very impressive set of original tools. Running well, driving nicely, fitted with a very appropriate set of radial tyres (not shown in the photos), and offered serviced and newly MoT tested. Overall, a great specimen of a rare specification car, ready to use and enjoy.
Chassis No. SNF109 Reg. No. 568 UYO
Snippets: Sydney’s most extravagantly dressed woman.
SNF109 was delivered to Mrs Violet Clara Chessher, the widow & 2nd wife of the wealthy entrepreneur Leonard Alfred Millichamp Chessher (1875/1936). The Sydney newspapers were full of the extravagant gifts that he bought for Violet - in 1917 for her birthday celebrations Leon threw a dinner party at the Australia Hotel (the most luxurious place to be seen) with each lady attending being given a bouquet of flowers & a box of chocolates. In 1922 Leon & Violet Chessher left by the Cruise ship the SS Narkunda for a world tour – they were away for 12 months & upon their return to Australia she was given the gift of a Rolls-Royce 20hp! In 1928 the papers reported that “Mrs Chessher is the only woman yet discovered in Sydney who has everything she wants.” A bold statement but it would appear that Leonard’s gifts to Violet certainly gave that impression with diamond rings one being the size of a shilling, a Russian lynx fur coat worth £2,000 & of course the Rolls-Royce! After Leon’s death Violet carried on living in the style to which she had become accustomed and in 1937 she bought a Rolls-Royce 25/30 and 15 years later, this Silver Dawn.
SHOW TIME at Burghley House, Stamford - 1st to 3rd July 2022 inclusive.
The Real Car Co will be attending the RREC Annual Rally with a selection of our stock and an indoor display of Rolls-Royce & Bentley cars that we have sold since 1987. Over 3,000 cars have passed through our hands since we started 35 years ago – many of which are shown in our photo display within our marquee. We look forward to seeing you there.
