Top 10 Ferraris from £57 million Maranello auction

| 11 Sep 2017

A staggering £57.4 million changed hands for just 38 cars and a selection of memorabilia at RM Sotheby’s Leggenda e Passione auction in Maranello at the weekend. Among the top sellers were some of the firm’s most significant models, from four-cylinder sports cars of the 1950s through to landmark supercars of the 1980s and two of the company’s most recent hypercars.

Perhaps the greatest draw of the event was the 1969 365GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta Alloy – the only road-going, alloy-bodied Daytona ever made – which crossed the block wearing a thick layer of dust accumulated during nearly 40 years of storage in Japan. The remarkable car failed to break into the top 10 sales of the auction, but still became the most expensive Daytona Coupe ever sold at €1,807,000.

Also of note was a 1983 Ferrari 400i, which was offered directly from the collection of rock star Keith Richards. The Rolling Stones legend had owned the car from new, and with just 3267km on the clock and a desirable five-speed gearbox, it was no surprise that it also fetched a world record price of €345,000.
