Silver Ghosts to re-enact gruelling trial 100 years on

| 11 Jun 2013

A convoy of 47 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts dating from 1909-’26 will re-enact the original 1913 Alpine Rally starting on 14 June.

Where possible, the cars will follow the original 1850-mile route visiting countries such as Austria, Croatia and Slovenia, before their final stop in Switzerland on 29 June.

The trip will include a meeting with the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club in Italy where the number of cars will swell to nearly 100.

Entries include a Rolls-Royce Works Team, which will use the original Radley car – named after the eponymous adventurer James, who took the car to victory in the 1913 event.

The Alpine Rally – with its extreme temperatures and steep inclines – was a tough test of a car’s reliability and performance.

The Ghost handled the conditions so well, however, that it was dubbed The Best Car in the World.
