5-seater 4-door saloon.

Second generation 80 range, on lengthened wheelbase (100ins compared to 97.2ins) version of original underpan, still front-drive, still part of VW's corporate plan. Larger and more up-market than before, no longer linked to re-styled VW Passat, and no estate car available. From 1981 to 1984 there were five-cylinder engine options, which were then transferred to newly developed '90' model. This design gave rise to well-liked Coupé and even Quattro, all based on same floorplan/front end structures.
