MERCURY COUGAR (1973-76)

2-door 5-seater hardtop coupé.

Completely different type of Cougar, now not related to the new Mustang but based on the Mercury Montego platform, becoming something of a smaller, ersatz, Thunderbird. As before, all types with big Ford-type V8 engines, and this time sold only as the XR7 coupé. Illogically, though not as sporty as before, it sold well in the USA - nearly a quarter million in three years. Only available in UK until 1975.
