First sporting Mini, recognisable by its horizontally-barred grille, super-type body trim, remote control gearshift, and front disc brakes. Twin-carburettor engine gives 55bhp, close-ratio gears are standard, and with the original 997cc unit (to end '63) top speed goes up from 70 to 85mph with acceleration to match. Same power but more torque from 998cc unit.
