SAAB SONETT III

2-door 2-seater coupé.

Strictly speaking not eligible here as all imports were unofficial, but some crept in, all with left-hand-drive. Sonnett III was a GRP-bodied coupé style, on the 96 V4's floorpan and engineering, with front-wheel drive, Ford Germany V4 engine, four-speed gearbox and floor change. Though selling in larger numbers with every succeeding model year, as a USA-intended model it was eventually killed off  by the cost of meeting legislation. Larger engine came for 1971, with 100mph top speed, and '5mph' bumpers for 1973.
