Auction raises thousands for charity

A total of £55,000 was raised for charity at Silverstone Auctions’ Pride and Joy sale at CarFest South on 25-26 August.

The event’s 15,000 visitors saw BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans play auctioneer at the sale of a 1964 Volkswagen Split Screen Dormobile Campervan. It went under the hammer for an impressive £33,550 with owner Malcolm Railson donating all the money to charity.

Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said: “We’re delighted that our efforts have helped to raise such an enormous amount of money for Children in Need.

“In true British fashion, even the odd Bank Holiday weekend downpour couldn’t dampen everyone’s enthusiasm or generosity, and the result has been truly amazing.”
