Austin Seven van joins largest collection of Matchbox models

| 12 Nov 2013

What was billed as the 'ultimate' Matchbox van is now part of the world's largest collection of Matchbox models after being sold at Barons for £10,700.

In 1937 the 1932 Austin Seven van was converted into an advertising vehicle for England’s Glory matches and is a wonderful artefact.

Top-seller at the 29 October sale was a 1998 Ferrari F355 convertible, which sold for £30,250, but the biggest shock result was a 1977 Daimler Double Six Coupé that doubled its high estimate to make £5780.

A trio of restoration projects also sold. A 1957 MGA Roadster achieved £4268, while a 1969 Daimler 250 V8 Saloon and 1954 Ford Prefect/105E sold for £692 and £800 respectively.
