Cobra roars past estimate to head Artcurial sale

| 24 Jul 2013

A 1965 AC Cobra 427 topped Artcurial’s sale in Monaco, sweeping past its €400k valuation to make €440,000 as numerous lots surpassed expectations on 22 July.

The Cobra had been subjected to an overhaul by marque specialists that included everything from a new exhaust to a replacement windscreen and a refurbished hood.

Following close behind the AC was a 1976 Lancia Stratos, which proved popular with the Artcurial faithful, selling for €313,000 against a lower estimate of €250,000.

Nipping a Chevrolet to third spot was a Mercedes-Benz 190SL that nearly doubled its estimate of €80k going for €144,000.

It was the American classic – a 1958 Corvette Fuel Injection Roadster – that was arguably the more collectable car, though.

The Fuelie had been meticulously dismantled and rebuilt, with an eye to maintaining its originality and managed €104,000 against a bottom estimate of €100k.

Other lots finding new homes included a 2008 Lamborghini Murciélago (€130,000) and a 1958 BMW Isetta 600 Moretti (€45,700).

The auction house’s next sale is on 20 October.
