Ex-McRae Ford Escort rally car coming up for sale

A Mk2 Ford Escort tested by the late Colin McRae and pedalled to numerous historic rally victories by his father Jimmy and brother Alister is to be sold by Silverstone Auctions on 22 February.

Estimated to sell for £65-85k at the Race Retro sale, the Eddie Stobart liveried 1977 RS1800 Gp4 was built by Prepfab Motorsport Engineering won the 2006 Roger Albert Clark Rally.

The following year LSV171 took first place in the pre-1981 class of the 2007 British Historic Championship and in 2008 was piloted by Alister McRae on the Colin McRae Memorial Rally.

After that it was completely rebuilt and has continued to compete, but less frequently.

Silverstone Auctions MD Nick Whale said: “We’re incredibly proud to offer a competition car with such provenance. Given the high octane surroundings of Race Retro the car is a perfect fit and is sure to prove popular with historic motorsport fans.”
