Ferraris make mega money at Villa Erba sale

| 27 May 2013

A 1953 Ferrari 340/375 MM Berlinetta 'Competizione' nudged €10million as RM amassed an astonishing €27.5million from just 38 cars at its Villa Erba auction on 25 May.

Ferraris dominated the sale, taking nine of the top 10 spots on the shores of Lake Como, but there was a huge drop to the second-top-seller, a 1962 400 Superamerica that made €2,184,000.

Third spot went to a €1.12million 1965 275 GTB.

The Ferrari hegemony was broken only by a 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster that sold for €1,114,400.

Possibly the biggest shock was the near €1million paid for a 1985 288GTO, confirming the inexorable rise of the long-undervalued supercar.
