Land Rovers make big money in Birmingham

| 9 Mar 2016

Two early Land-Rovers have sold for impressive sums at Silverstone Auctions’ 6 March sale in Birmingham.

The first, a 1948 Series I chassis #149 fetched £47,250 – a whopping £20,000 beyond its pre-sale lower estimate. It was followed by one of the very latest Defenders built, a 2016 Land Rover 110 Heritage Edition. Only 400 of the run-out Defenders have been built, and it made £42,188.

A rare 1950 Land-Rover Series I Station Wagon with coachwork by Tickford became one of the most valuable examples of its type sold at auction, fetching £38,250.

However, all three were eclipsed by a 1999 Lamborghini Diablo SV, one of the last cars produced prior to the Volkswagen takeover. It sold above its lower estimate for £174,375.

The Diablo was joined by another Italian supercar, this time a 1987 Ferrari 412i. It made £50,625 owing to its superb post-restoration condition.

A 1973 Ford Capri RS 3100 sold for £49,500, while a stunning right-hand-drive Volvo P1800E fetched £34,875.

Pick of the projects was a 1978 Aston Martin V8 Series III, which achieved £47,250 despite being in non-running condition.
