| 22 Oct 2014

A 1954 Bentley R-type Continental Fastback – one of just three right-hand-drive automatic examples built – will go under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions' Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show sale on 15-16 November.

The late D Series car is estimated at £800-900,000.

The Bentley was delivered to Alan G Clark and was highly specified with an automatic gearbox, electric windows, Smiths heating and twin foglamps. A top-of-the-range 4.9-litre engine was also fitted.

The stunning Mulliner & Co aluminium coachwork was built onto a Rolls-Royce chassis, and has been kept in fine condition by its current owner.

"This car is a beautifully styled masterpiece, offering gracious classic motoring with just a hint of modern convenience," said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. "It is beautifully presented and is testament to the pampered existence it has enjoyed."

The Bentley will be joined by an early racing Aston Martin DB2/4 with a fascinating history.
