Stalled E-type project expected to create a buzz at Barons' pre-Christmas sale

| 4 Dec 2013

A stalled 1965 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Roadster restoration is expected to generate a lot of interest at Barons' Yuletide Classic sale at Sandown Park on 17 December.

The project was halted in the early 1980s and when the rebuild was put on ice, the car had a Martin Robey shell with new doors, boot lid, interior trim and hood. New front wings and under pan are loosely fitted.

Despite spending so long in storage and there being plenty of work still to do, the estimate for the E-type is £55-£75,000

Other lots of interest include a 1964 Mk1 Lotus Cortina that has been in its current ownership for 30 years (£38-42,000). Having been bought as a collection of parts it has been restored from the ground up and shows just 24,000 miles.

There is also a 'barnfind' Mini project that hasn't moved for 20 years, a 1962 Morris Mini Minor De Luxe with only one recorded previous owner and fewer than 40,000 miles on the clock (£3-4k), plus a one-owner-from-new Triumph TR6 with low miles that is expected to make £13,500-16,000.

Among a handful of American cars at the sale are a 1972 replica of a 1933 Ford Roadster (£12-14k), a 1933 Chevrolet Master Eagle CA (£12-14k), and a a 1930 Ford Model A sedan (£11,500-13,000).

Catching our eye though is a 1939 Buick 46S Business Coupe. One of 15,000 made, the stylish Buick is estimated to sell for £20-24,000.

Unusually for Barons, the sale will also feature a brace of aeroplanes, both 1950s De Havilland Canada Chipmunks. One, an ex-manufacturer demonstration machine, is expected to sell for £53-58k, while a former RAF instruction plane with just 70 hours on the engine should be cheaper at £43-48,000.
