Light at the end of the tunnel for forgotten E-type

An incredible dust-covered 1973 Jaguar E-type is set to receive a new lease of life following 25 years locked in darkness. The Series III V12 roadster has finally been removed from the Warwickshire garage where it’s spent the past quarter of a century and will cross the block at Silverstone Auctions’ 23 May sale, where it’s expected to fetch a staggering £90,000.

The high estimate owes much to the car’s paltry 7700 miles covered, but is also due, in part, to its family history. It was bought new by the grandfather of the vendor in 1973 and was used sparingly during its early life, before passing to the next generation in 1993. However, its incarceration continued – with the exception of having oil poured in the cylinders to prevent the engine seizing plus a full service in 2006 – until last September, when it was inherited by his son.

The car is now set to receive a careful recommissioning from Tolman Motorsports prior to crossing the block in May.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to offer this highly original, low-mileage E-type for auction and help find it a loving home with a new owner,” said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. “In my opinion, the Series III E-type is one of the best-value classic cars on offer. The market has now recognised these wonderful cars and as such we expect a great amount of interest in this fantastically original, low-mileage example.”
