All eyes turn to Monterey

All eyes turn to Monterey
One of the most prestigious events on the classic-car calendar – Monterey Week – gets underway today in California, USA.
C&SC’s Mick Walsh and James Elliot will be touching down Stateside intent on giving you a live feed of the plentiful action, starting with today’s free Concours on the Avenue at the main street of Carmel by the Sea.
Later tonight (US time), Gordon McCall will present the Motorworks Revival at the Monterey Jet Centre with machinery such as Lockheed P38 Lightning and record-breaking cycles set to star.
Thursday night’s Baja Cantina’s informal free-cruise will feature everything from rat rods to Euro classics and Americana.
Then it’s an action-packed Friday with practice at Laguna Seca and the celebration of Italian style – Concorso Italiano – at the circuit’s Golf Ranch. On the same day the star-studded Quail Motorsports gathering’s featured themes will be pre-war Alfa Romeos, the 50th Anniversary of Iso Automobili, FIVA Preservation and Revolutionary Designs.
Racing at Laguna Seca starts on Saturday and that’s closely followed by RM’s massive auction – where a Gulf-liveried GT40 will be one of the top lots – and the similarly unmissable Russo & Steele’s Sports and Muscle auction.
Or, for a display of humble machinery that’s at the opposite end of the spectrum to the exotica at Pebble Beach there’s the Concours d’LeMons.
Meanwhile Sunday brings with it the main event – the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – as the event draws to a close with the last day of Gooding & Co’s weekend sale.

We’ll be keeping you up to date with all the action as it unfolds the website or and our Facebook page. Keep your eyes peeled.
