Australian show to honour Brabham

Next year’s Motorclassica will feature a dozen racing cars driven by three-time Formula 1 champion Sir Jack Brabham (above in his BT11 Climax in East London, 1965).

The planned line-up is part of the Melbourne show’s celebration of the country’s greatest motorsport hero at the 26-28 October event in the city’s Royal Exhibition building.

Show organiser Paul Mathers made the announcement after the event – which took place for the second time this year – picked up the award for the Best New Show at the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia 2011 Awards for Excellence at Sydney’s Crystal Palace on 6 December.

Mathers was delighted: “This is a real coup for Motorclassica because it’s fabulous recognition of our commitment to the classic motoring community.”

The Brabham festivities at the annual classic car show and concours d’elegance will also include interviews with several of the Formula 1 legend’s old racing rivals.
