D Types parade at Prescott

| 2 Aug 2012

This weekend’s Prescott Vintage Hill Climb will host a 12-car Vauxhall D Type parade as the model celebrates its 100th Anniversary.

Vauxhall’s D Type army staff car that starred in the 2012 Steven Spielberg film, War Horse, will be the undoubted star of Sunday’s convoy.

The D Type helped the company establish its self as a top European carmaker.

It was also a popular choice with the Army meaning it went into action in places such as Egypt and Salonika. The forces even felt moved to label it the most ‘generally satisfactory of any British make’.

Hardly surprising then that nearly 2000 D Types were produced between 1912 and 1922, before it was superseded by the OD Type 23/60.

The VSCC’s Prescott meet runs throughout the weekend and will attract 250 pre-war cars.
