E-type tour raises £50,000 for charity

| 6 Oct 2016

The E-type Club’s Round Britain Coastal Drive has raised more than £50,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Masterminded by Philip Porter, who drove the entirety of the 4000-mile route in his Italian Job E-type, the 18-day event involved more than 200 E-types and attracted countless celebrity supporters, including Ross Brawn and Derek Bell.

“I am elated, and relieved,” said Porter. “We were pioneers, even in 2016, and it was no small challenge. This, above all, was a team effort with fabulous support from my E-type Club colleagues who did all the hard work, our sponsors, our VIP supporters, the charity, Prostate Cancer UK, and over 200 E-type owners.

“Everywhere we have gone, round the coast of Great Britain, we have been raising awareness with the public and through the media. People have been amazingly generous and we have had a lot of fun. Everyone wins. We will certainly be doing it again next year.”

The tour was flagged away from Goodwood by five-times Le Mans winner Derek Bell, and was joined by Mary Sayer, daughter of legendary E-type designer Malcolm, while Ross Brawn turned out for the closing leg.

Porter concluded: “This event was a wonderful way to see England, Wales and Scotland, sample places one has heard of but never been to, and discover so many quaint villages and stylish towns. Every day had its own character and special quality. Above all, there was a wonderful camaraderie as we all had a common cause and could use the fabulous E-types, which we are lucky enough to own, for the good of men everywhere.”
